An Interview with Tavis Smiley: A Preview of my book on Martin Luther King Jr

"Soul on Fire" is forthcoming

Last week, I was in Los Angeles and was interviewed by Tavis Smiley about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, based on a years-long project where I have worked on a book about the psychology of Dr. King as a person. Titled “Soul on Fire”, it is forthcoming later this year. Here Tavis and I discuss some important emotional aspects of Dr. King’s personality, including his experience of manic symptoms and clinical depression. We also discuss the relevance of this kind of work to other leaders, such as the current president, as I’ve written about in the past in “A First-Rate Madness.”
